Meet Sister Rita Smith!!

Sister Rita is our fabulous principal! She is from Hanover, Pa and currently resides in the convent at Holy Name of Jesus. Here are some other tidbits to get to know her:

“I am blessed to have a brother, niece, two nephews and their spouses, a niece and her spouse and a grand niece and nephew. They are each very special to me.

I went to Chestnut Hill College, Marywood University, and Neumann College.

I have been in education for 49 years. I have spent thirty happy years at Holy Name. During my career at Holy Name I have taught sixth grade English and Religion, seventh grade English and Religion, eighth grade English and Religion, Assistant Principal and currently Principal.

I enjoy going in and out of the classrooms observing the great lessons that occur here each day and interacting with the students in the hallways and at lunch time. The team spirit and sense of family spirit is very unique to Holy Name. I am honored to be a part of where "learning and love go hand in hand"!

When I was in the classroom, I enjoyed teaching oral speaking. The students practiced these skills by memorizing and reciting a poem each month. The students learned how to be comfortable speaking in front of their peers. A life skill they took with them into their academic and professional career.

My favorite hobbies are reading and cooking. I like reading realistic fiction.”
