HNJ Disaster Relief Fundraiser
The HNJ  Disaster Relief Fundraiser was an enormous success, with $1501.40 raised for hurricane assistance.  Thank you to all who contributed to this worthy cause!
 
 
Progress Reports
 
Progress  Reports were issued on October 12, 2017.  Instructions for viewing and printing are below.  Please note, reports should be returned to your child/children's homeroom teacher by Thursday, October 19, 2017, OR you may send an email to the teacher indicating that you have seen your child/children's Progress Report.
 
In order to view and print copies of student progress reports in grades Kindergarten through 4, and each subject for students in grades 5 through 8, click on the Rediker Plus Portal listed on the HNJ school website index to left.  Use the login instructions from the email you received on September 19, 2017 (as discussed at Back to School Night). 
 
Restaurant Night
Holy Name of Jesus School Restaurant Night is Tuesday, October 24, 2017!  
Eat in or take out at Grill 22 on October 24, 2017, and 15% of the proceeds will go to HNJ School.  There's something for everyone in the family on the menu.....enjoy a delicious meal and help your child's school at the same time!  Grill 22 is located at 6197 Allentown Boulevard, Harrisburg - call 717-657-0800 for take-out.
 
The Sacraments
Sacred Heart of Jesus over praying childInformation regarding each sacrament (Penance, Confirmation, and First Eucharist) is communicated to our school families closer to the sacrament dates.  Parents/guardians are required to attend parent meetings which are scheduled during the year.  Please see below for scheduled sacrament and/or meeting dates:

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be conducted on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 7:30 am - 3:00 pm. 

Forms to schedule appointments are sent to families a few weeks prior to Conference Day. 

Please note, HNJ Parent/Teacher Conferences are held once per year.  Parents/Guardians who wish to meet with their child/children's teacher(s) on an alternate date should contact the teacher(s) to make arrangements.

 
 
Report Card and Progress Report Information
 
Holy Name of Jesus School issues electronic report cards and assessments according to Diocese of Harrisburg requirements.  Printed report cards are issued on a trimester basis. 

Progress Reports are printed by parents/guardians via our Rediker Parent Portal each trimester.  Reports should be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the homeroom teacher. 
 
Issue dates for Progress Reports and Reports Cards for the 2017-2018 school year are as follows:

            Students entering seventh grade are required to have the following:

·      One (1) dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) if five (5) years have elapsed since the last Tetanus immunization.

·         One (1) dose of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV)

If your child/children have had a  physical or dental exam since September 2016, that will qualify. Please have the pediatrician or dentist complete the form and return it to the school. 

 

Registration Information for New Students Entering Grades 1 - 8, Kindergarten, and Pre-School

Holy Name of Jesus School began accepting new student registrations for the 2017-2018 school year on Monday, January 30, 2017.

To register your child/children for Pre-School, Kindergarten, and/or Grades 1 through 8, please call the school office at 717-657-1704 to schedule an appointment.

Requirements for New Student Registrations:

  • New Kindergarten students must be five (5) years of age by August 31, 2017
  • The following documents are required at the time registration for all students entering Kindergarten through Grade 8:
    • Birth Certificate
    • Copy of Immunizations
    • Baptismal Certificate
    • Any necessary legal documents
  • New Pre-School students must be age 3 or 4 and potty trained by August 31, 2017
  • The following documents are required at the time of registration  for all students entering Pre-School:
    • Birth Certificate
    • Copy of Immunizations
    • Any necessary legal documents

Registrations will not be accepted without the required documents as identified above.

 

Important Daycare Busing Information for 2017-2018

Families who reside in the Central Dauphin School District with child/children who ride the bus to/from Holy Name of Jesus School are required to complete a “Child Care Provider Request” form EVERY YEAR if the child will be traveling to/from a daycare provider.   Daycare providers must reside within the Central Dauphin School District boundaries.

Daycare accommodations that include busing do not carry over from one school year to the next; therefore, families who will require day care busing again for the 2017-2018 school year must submit a new form by the end of this school year. 

If daycare arrangements change during the school year, please fill out a NEW form.  To obtain this form, contact the Holy Name of Jesus School Office at 717-657-1704, or use the link provided below. Forms should be returned to the HNJ School Office.

2017/2018 K-12 Voluntary Student Accident Insurance

The Diocese of Harrisburg, through A-G Administrators, Inc., Valley Forge, PA, offers a Voluntary Student Accident Insurance Plan for our families to purchase.  Please click on the link, read the instructions, and download the form, if interested.

 

2017-2018 Asbestos Notification

The Diocese of Harrisburg provides our school with a Parent/Legal Guardian Notification each school year explaining the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) as it pertains to Holy Name of Jesus School.  Please read this document.

 

Sponsor An Ad

When your business sponsors an ad with the Holy Name of Jesus School, your business message reaches our entire community while simultaneously providing needed items to our students! 

Every year we look for businesses to help underwrite the cost of providing school folders for our students and envelopes for report card mailings. Our students receive these items at no cost to families because of advertisements provided by generous patrons.

If you would like to sponsor an ad, please print, complete, and return the Sponsor An Ad form to the school office.  You may also call the printer listed on the form directly.

 

 

Sick and Late Student Call-in Information

A parent/guardian is required to call the school by 9:00 am to report sick or late children. When your child will be absent due to illness or late to school because of an appointment, please call the school at 717-657-1704 and use the following procedure:

  • Calls before 7:30am - When prompted on the line,  press '3' to reach the Attendance Line.
  • Calls after 7:30am and before 9:00am -  Request the Attendance Line when your call is answered.
 

 Contacting Your Child/Children's Teacher(s):

Teachers may be contacted in the following ways:

1. Call the office at 717-657-1704 during regular school hours. Your call will be forwarded to the appropriate voice mailbox when your call is answered.  Your message will be returned within 48 hours.

2. Send a note to the teacher via your child.

3. Send an e-mail to the teacher.

 
 
 

Car Rider Dismissal Procedures

As of Monday, August 31, 2015, parents began parking outside the Primary Building for Car Rider Dismissal.  Parents are to line up outside the Primary Building in a single file line.  At 3:00 pm, enter the left door to the former church.  Tables are at the top of the stairs for parents to sign out their child - ID may be required. Once a parent has signed out the child, the parent will go to teacher on duty to call the child/children.  Parents and students will exit the former church through the middle door of the former church into the lobby to exit the building through the middle door.

If your child is a car rider every day, please provide a note to the homeroom teacher at the beginning of the school year indicating their status as a daily car rider.  The homeroom teacher will require an additional note in the event your child/children will be picked up by someone other than the parent. 

If your child is an occasional car rider, please send a note to school with your child that morning.

Honors and Effort Awards

1st HonorsTo achieve First Honors:   The student will have earned an A in all academic subject areas and a C or greater in all special subjects.

2nd Honor CardTo achieve Second Honors:  The student will have earned an A or B in any combination in all academic subjects and a C or greater in all special subjects.

Honorable MentionHonorable Mention:   This achievement is subject to the discretion of the homeroom teacher and is awarded to those students who are consistently doing their best.

To achieve overall honors for the school year, teachers also consider the student’s character development.

 

Obtaining Clearances for the Youth Protection Program

In order to ensure every child’s safety within the Diocese of Harrisburg, all persons who are volunteers at Diocesan schools and parishes must complete the following:

  • Diocesan Disclosure Statement
  • PA State Police Report
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Mandated & Permissive Reporter Training
  • FBI Fingerprint Report (for those who have not resided in PA at any time within the past 10 years)

Forms and instructions to apply for clearances are available HERE, or may be picked up at the Parish Office. 
Once all clearance certificates are received, please submit to the Parish Office as a complete package. 
Packets will be submitted to the Diocese of Harrisburg and a Youth Protection Badge will be issued.  All certified volunteers must wear the Youth Protection Badge while participating in any and all activities where children are present.
