RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) |
|
Each autumn around the world individuals begin a journey of
faith in a process that is known as the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It is a process whereby individuals
who are not of the Catholic faith, but who are interested in
learning about the Catholic faith come together weekly to listen
to someone sharing the faith and to reflect upon their
relationship with the Lord. It is also for baptized Catholics
who have not yet received the other sacraments of initiation;
viz., Confirmation and First Eucharist. It is helpful for a
Catholic spouse or Catholic friend to attend the classes with
the one inquiring about the faith.
When one attends these classes, there is no real commitment
at that time. It is a time for an individual to respond to the
call of the Lord in their lives.
The
classes are held each Monday evening from 7:00
p.m. to approximately 8:15 p.m. The process begins in September
and culminates with the Easter Vigil when those who have never
been baptized receive this sacrament and those who were baptized
in another Christian denomination make a profession of faith. In
addition, they will receive Confirmation and First Eucharist. Please contact the Parish Office at (717) 652-4211 or
HolyNameOfJesusParishHarrisburg@hbgdiocese.org if you, or anyone that you
know, is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.
